1/22/12: night one of pulled-porkapalooza. the bbq goodness was followed by reminiscing of childhood movies. apparently i’m the only one who never saw the brave little toaster.

1/23/12: the sky after the rain. crazy how sometimes los angeles doesn’t look like los angeles.

1/24/12: these are the only things that have been getting me through work.

1/25/12: reading in bed and cuddles. doesn’t get much better.

1/26/12: i ghetto-crafted this diy. “tutorial” to follow.

1/27/12: i couldn’t quite get a good shot of the pink sky, so i got the reflections in the background instead.

1/28/12: 75 and sunny when i left work today. love it.
see the rest of the years photos here:

1/15/12: holy cow its the middle of january already. WHAT. sunday i painted, marshall bought a bike, and i spent a couple of hours in a room with a bunch of nerds downtown, followed by enchilada night. felix approves.

1/16/12: monday was spent with nontra. i had some laundry to do and we had some hanging out to catch up on. we took a walk to get crepes, but the restaurant was closed for the holiday, so we went to the candy store instead and i stocked up on taffy. its almost gone now (tuesday night).

1/17/12: in the midst of cleaning out and organizing my craft supplies. the urge comes and goes in waves, so i took a break for food and makeouts. the kitchen is in disarray.

1/18/12: somehow i burst a blood vessel in my eyeball. i thought i just had an eyelash in there and then i looked and it was not cute. i don’t know if wearing contacts has any effect on it or not and i’m too lazy to look it up, so i’ve just been playing it safe and wearing my glasses all week. thankfully its almost all better.

1/19/12: hey remember that time i worked three twelve + hour days in a row? yup.

1/20/12: i’ve almost forgotten what daylight looks like.

1/21/12: again, my weekly painting was put off until the last day of the week. but i am SO EXCITED about this one. it’s awesome. i’ll show you later.

1/8/12: i took a bunch of pictures today, but this one just kind of encompasses the whole day. we walked down to the farmers market cause i was craving empanadas and it was just a gorgeous day. this leaning tree made me giggle.

1/9/12: trees two days in a row! eep! today was super awesome. woke up early and got some errands done - got ink for my printer so i can start putting these photos in my album, got a bunch of canvases so i have no excuse to get behind on a painting a week, went grocery shopping (gasp!). then came back and had some beef stew for lunch and walked to the beach and back. the four miles wore me out and gave me blisters the size of quarters - but nothin a sushi burrito for dinner cant cure.

1/10/12: playing around with new editing techniques. i have such a hard time taking photos in my apartment because its just so dark and yellow. thats the point of this project though, i guess, to learn new things and get better. so i finally got around to framing and hanging the bag that my secret santa gift came in! i love it. its so pretty.

1/11/12: wednesday we had the sweets truck come to work to celebrate january birthdays. yum.

1/12/12: i admit, i had to kind of stretch with this one. it was late and i hadn’t taken my photo yet. but i did want to talk about these shoes eventually anyway, so here goes. these were my first pair of expensive shoes. fifty dollars! they’re from the wild pair, remember that store? i was in seventh grade. my mom was so pissed. she didn’t think i would wear them. but let me tell you, i wore the shit out of these babies. eventually i got tired of them, but somehow they managed to survive every fit of feng shui madness i’ve had since then (and there have been plenty) because i just loved them so much. i left them at home when i moved to la, but every once in awhile i think about them and in my head they are so amazing that i wished i had them with me here. so finally when i went home this time for christmas, i had my mom dig them out and i brought them back with me. they’re hideous, right? i tried wearing them the other day with my pajama pants for like a seventies vibe, but it didn’t work. i have to keep them though. i know the instant i would get rid of them, i would immediately want them back because bell bottoms came back into style or something.

1/13/12: marshall and i have had a longstanding rain check for another double date with josie and joe for sausages at wurstkuche venice. friday we finally cashed it in.

1/14/12: i met marshall and his roommates in santa monica tonight for a walk and some sushi. thank god because the sunset was effing amazing.

i caught this light by chance friday at work and it made me so happy. i just love pink sky so much.

this was probably the most sober, but funnest new years eve’s in recent history. usually it’s all hype and big letdown. but this year it was easy and a blast. of course, any day that starts off with chick fil a on a warm, sunny los angeles afternoon is bound to be great.

(gratuitous hollywood shot)

after lunch, we dove down to melrose so i could get the JOHNNY CUPCAKES HEY ARNOLD TEE SHIRT - but stopped on the way to snap pics of the mr. brainwash and klasky-csupo murals.

jump forward a couple hours…

and i got a little more dressed up than necessary. but hey, its new years.

we braved the crowds at universal city walk to go to the jon lovitz theater to watch kevin smith and ralph garman’s hollywood babble-on new years babble-eve.

it was a freakin riot. i’ve loved kevin smith for quite some time now. awhile back we went to see a screening of red state where he did a q&a afterwards which was awesome, but kinda serious. last night he was so adorable i could hardly contain myself, and i don’t remember the last time i laughed so hard.

marshall could also hardly contain himself - he got to go on stage for their game show portion and stumped them with a big lebowski question, thereby winning a magic set that ralph was re-gifting and shaking hands with both gentlemen.

at midnight we had our own bottle of champagne and i got to kiss his handsome face.

from the show, we went to the comedy store on sunset where i developed a major girl-crush on the bassist for a makeshift air guitar band and i saw jesus in la! (but like an idiot accidentally deleted the photo in my girl-crush haze.)
we got home around 4am and now i’m the only one awake and STARVING! who wants brunch?

on our way home from the cheese castle, mom and i detoured a bit in the back country roads trying to find some big chickens. (mom has an affection of roadside critters and is trying to document all she can - i’m trying to get her to blog about them. ahem.)
we didn’t find the chickens, but we found freddy bear’s antique mall. they had a pretty great selection and reasonable prices. luckily for me my suitcase was already jam packed, so i saved myself some money. i do kind of regret not getting that set of cups below though, it was only $8 for all of them!

an evening with friends playing IRL words with friends! i lost big time.

newly trimmed bangs.

downtown for the craft fair meant fabric and trim shopping also.

walking back from the farmers market, i fell in love with this building.

this is about as festive as i generally get, but this year i’m kind of craving a real tree. instead, i’ll probably end up crafting some little ornaments for this guy.

this weekend was so amazingly beautiful and exactly why i live in los angeles. 80 degrees when its almost december? i’ll take it!

so we went for a hike up through the hills and behind the hollywood sign. the hike was awesome and practically killed me (my legs still ache!)

plus i got to check something off my los angeles bucket list! hooray!

thankful to live in a place with skies like {above} and {below}.

thankful to work for a company that takes care of us.

thankful for traditions like advent calendars with my gramma.

thankful to have los angeles orphans to spend holidays with over amazing meals.
rain sky.
hazy afternoon.
good morning, austin.
